Early Childhood Center-School Year 2016-2017

"Play is the highest expression of human development."
Welcome to The One School At Temple Beth Am, Celebrating the Whole Child. We understand and respect that every child is essentially, ‘the one.’ Every child is unique. The specifics of how we nurture and grow each child are dependent entirely upon the needs of the child. This is how we celebrate each child - by engaging him or her at his or her point of need. The One School partners with every parent to ensure every child is championed and educated as an individual.

The One School is a NAEYC Accredited, Reggio Emilia Nature-inspired school, serving ages 18 months to five years. The One School offers certified teachers, a low student/teacher ratio, an emergent creative curriculum and specialty areas of study including science, art, music, foreign language and nature study. The One School’s curricula are supplemented by young family programs and parenting workshops, an infant and toddler program, Family Center, Summer Camp, after school enrichment classes and an active and instrumental Parent Teacher Organization. A commitment to contribute to the community and the world at large is also a part of the school’s social justice philosophy.

Celebrating Passover in the Beezland

Frogs are everywhere! But, we made it! We are out of Egypt and free! Of course we are still surrounded by frogs because thats what the Beez were, frogs! The Beez/slaves worked very hard on the lots of activities we had. We have the Seder plate that we painted with watercolors, we took care of baby Moses, we decorated lots and lots of frogs, and we sang lots of songs and danced! Enjoy some of the pictures we took! Thank you for celebrating with us!

February 8, 2017
This month is mainly about our beautiful holiday, Tu B'Shvat, in which we celebrate the birthday of the trees! This, of course, is dominating our learning. We've made many different kids of trees with many different kinds of shapes. We also plated some Parsley seeds. Lets hope they grow in time for Passover. The Beez also showed compassion for the trees by giving them a hug and telling them they love them! The trees we made our hanging from the ceiling in our classroom for everyone to see!

We also had a visit from out science lady! We learned about magnets and how they can either attract to each other or repel! We also learned about weight and how to balance item on a scale. Thanks HighTech HighTouch!

Our Beez are as busy as can be! But they LOVE it!

We are also learning our skills, as we do everyday! Some skills that we are continuing to practice are sharing, taking turns, fine motor skills and so much more!

Also, this month we are celebrating Ido and Brandon's birthdays along with the birthday of the trees!

December 1, 2016
We are so very thankful! November is a time to reflect back on how thankful we are all year round. The Beez let us know what exactly they were thankful for. Along with celebrating Thanksgiving, we had lots of other activities happening! From gardening with Ms. Paula to decorating pumpkins and everything in between!

Here at the Beezland, we still need to work on our rules and schedules to help provide the children with a safe environment. This week, we learned how to clean and put our toys in the right place. We also learned how to take turns with our toys and how to rotate between centers. And, of course, all that comes with lots of fun and learning to be part of the group!

April 15, 2016
This past week, April 11-15, was the Week of the Young Child. Each day had its own theme for the day! Here is our week!

Music Monday: We loved exploring all our music instruments and singing Passover songs!

Taco Tuesday: We ate yummy tacos and made our very own version of a taco!

Work Together Wednesday: We teamed up to work on 2 big floor puzzles and we did it! It was lots of fun to work with our friends!

Artsy Thursday: We listened to Ms. Stacy from the Palm Beach County Library, it was all about art and painting. When we got back to class, we decorated our cards for our parents in honor of The Week of the Young Child!

Family Friday: We all got to draw out our families. And we told everyone about them!

The Journey of a Butterfly!
Our garden expert, Ms. Kerrie, was kind enough to find us a class caterpillar. Over the next couple weeks, we watched and watched our caterpillar in hope to see it bloom into a butterfly. And sure enough, we were lucky enough to catch the act of the caterpillar coming out of his cocoon into a butterfly. I was such a magical moment to see and it inspired us to create the journey of a butterfly! Enjoy the pictures!

A caterpillar on a leaf

A caterpillar in a cage

And a butterfly!

The beez are so proud of their butterfly!

Time to let go!

And he flew on top of the fence!

Making our own caterpillars!

March 11, 2016
Busch Wildlife came to visit us with amazing animals! Our beez couldn't be anymore happy and excited! Prior to their visit, we talked about wild animlas so the beez knew a bit about the animals they were going to see. Clearly, they were not disappointed! First we saw Ms. Buttercup, the alligator. The beez were able to touch her and felt her scaley skin. Then came Ms. Helmet, a tortoise. They all felt her super hard shell! Believe it or not, Tya the skunk was part of the group! The beez pet her and they found out she was quite soft! Good thing was, she wasnt smelly at all! Then came Scar the snake. He was long and had beautiful colors! The beez couldn't wait to touch him! They found out how smooth he really was. We concluded with Mr. Jack, a barn owl. He was simply beautiful but he had razor sharp nails. We could only look at him so we didn't get hurt! Back in the class, we talked about all the different animals they saw and how they felt on their skin. Hopefully they went home and told you all about it! It was definitely a great visit that left an impact on the children! Ask them about the experience!

February 26, 2016
Getting ready for the big gala! Downton Abbey style! It was really fun to get together with our moms and have the beez footprints to auction off at the amazing event. The children got to enjoy treats of brownies and oranges after their participation in the activity! We hope to see you all at the wonderful event for a great cause. Big thanks to Ms. Stacey, Ms. Sharon, and Ms. Natalie, our wonderful moms who helped organize this project and helping at the beezland!

February 12, 2016
Dr. Goldvasser, a dentist, came to visit us! We were so excited to see him and he told us how important it is to take care of our teeth and our health. He also showed us how to brush our teeth and floss the right way. And yep, we have to brush our tongues! We also got inspired by his visit that we read Never Take A Shark To The Dentist. Thank you, Mr. Dentist!

It was busy day on Friday in the Beezland. Mazel, the Shabbat puppy, came to visit us and we took him to celebrate Shabbat with us! We fed him while we were having out Challah and fruit. We also read about him in our Shabbat Puppy book. Shabbat Shalom from the Beehive!

January 22, 2016
It's all about Tu B'Shvat!
It was busy at the Beezland. We were planting, making gardens, trees for our centerpieces, reading lots of books and singing songs about trees. While learning about the trees, the beez also practiced their skills! We used our fine motor skills for cutting, tearing and gluing. We learned lots of new vocabulary words in Hebrew such as yarok (green), hoom (brown), ets (tree), tsahov (sun), and ginah (garden) to name a few. We also took a couple nature walks to gather our tree making materials. We are so very happy to conclude our unit on Tu B'Shvat with a celebration at our Shabbat service. Thank you for all of those who could join us in the celebration!

October 23, 2015
The Fire Department came to The One School today and our Brave Bumblebees took a tour of their Fire Truck! They were amazed by how big the truck was and the Fire Fighters showed them some of their equipment and tools! We sang "Fire Truck, Fire Truck, I want to Ride On A Fire Truck" and shared some high-fives :)

October 20, 2015
Coach Dessie our Science Teacher came for a visit with our Beez! They explored different bugs and Coach Dessie explained the three main parts of an ant and some other insects: head, thorax and abdomen. The Bumblebees also did their own science experiment mixing two secret ingredients together to make yucky goo! Awesome!

October 15, 2015
Buzzing around the Garden
We had the pleasure of planting our own pea and sunflower seeds last week and they have already sprouted! We used our gross-motor skills and imagination while buzzing around the garden! We also used our senses to smell, hear and feel other plants and herbs. We even used our math skill to count how many bugs we found! We love the gardens and our Bumblebees will have a chance to check on their progress daily!

September 30, 2015
We had Music with Mr. Brett today! We visited our School's Sukkah, out front of the school. We ran around exercising our gross motor skills, danced, sang songs about shaking the lulav etrog and even had a chance to use our senses to smell and touch an etrog! It smells so yummy!  We had such a WONDERFUL day exploring and sharing lots of laughs with our friends!

August 21, 2015
What a wonderful first week Bumblebees! Here we are signing "welcome to our class" during morning circle time, exploring the sandbox that is on our playground, staying hydrated after lots of play and exercising our large motor skills during our circle time workout. Great job Bumblebees!

May 1, 2015
We got to read our favorite book, Piggie Pie, using the animal masks that Phil's mom let us borrow. All the children pretended to be different animals on the farm. Afterward the Bumblebees explored the masks and practiced telling the story by themselves. We are working on early literacy skills and dramatic role-playing.

April 29, 2015
Thank you for all of our wonderful book fair books! We loved wearing pajamas today and having a cozy pajama reading party. We read each book that the children donated, and they were so proud of their books. We are working on early literacy and self-regulation as we sit and listen to stories.

April 24, 2015
Today the petting zoo visited us! We were hoping to see animals like pigs, horses, ducks, chickens, alligators, tigers, and snakes, and some of our wishes came true! All of us loved petting the animals and learning about what they eat and what they like to do.

Peyton's favorite animals to pet were the chicks!

Phil walked right up to the rooster and said, "Cock-a-doodle-doo!"

Rosie was determined to pet this calf...and she finally did!

April 22, 2015
Happy Earth Day! Even though it was a little rainy, it cleared up enough for a beautiful walk in our preschool garden. The Bumblebees haven't seen the garden in a while and were so excited to identify fruits and vegetables that are growing, like a pineapple, tomatoes, and lettuce! We hope you will be able to get some fresh produce at our fresh market/bake sale on Friday!

We are getting ready to celebrate Yom HaAtzma'ut (Israeli Independence Day). The Bumblebees are learning about blue and white, and making their own Israeli flags. On Friday we will be having a parade and Shabbat celebration for Israel's birthday!

April 15, 2015
Happy Work Together Wednesday! We spent the day building together with all the different blocks we have in the classroom. The children took turns identifying colors and shapes of their building materials, and one by one each added a block to the city. We also incorporated little animals and people into our building. The children told us they were building "a zoo," "a farm," and "a roller coaster." Building together promotes creativity, strenghtens gross and fine motor skills, fosters pre-math and pre-science skills, encourages self-regulation and coordination, and creates a community bond. After building together, the Bumblebees played together more peacefully, imaginatively, and confidently for the rest of the day.

April 13, 2015
It's Week of the Young Child! We are celebrating with a different theme every day of this week. Today was Music Monday. The Bumblebees learned about lots of instruments that we have right in our own classroom, including the accordion, drum, rain stick, ukulele, tambourine, clappers, maracas, and bells. Everyone had a turn to practice flipping the rain stick, banging the drum, and opening the accordion. We had a musical parade around the classroom using our favorite instruments! It was a musical day full of gross and fine motor skills, learning about other cultures, and FUN!

April 3, 2015
Enjoy a few photos of your beautiful Bees loving school. Happy Pesach!

April 1, 2015
Thanks to all our wonderful Bumblebees families who were able to join us this morning for our Passover program. We had a beautiful celebration, and frogs were truly jumping EVERYWHERE!

March 27, 2015
We are getting ready to celebrate Passover! Our Bumblebees are working so hard to design Seder plates for you. We can't wait to see you next week at our Passover program!

March 24, 2015
Happy Spring! We are learning about frogs, bugs, and other animals that live in the pond habitat for our unit "Spring at the Pond." The Bumblebees got to make their own froggies for our bulletin board! They loved our pond sensory table for exploring all the animals and lily pads that are in the pond.

March 6, 2015
We learned about the mitzvot of sharing with our friends through Shalack Manot baskets. Our baskets started out as circles, but we folded them into triangles and practiced counting to three as we folded the sides and Miss Jaque stapled the corners.

March 2, 2015
Today the Bumblebees made hamantaschen! It was an exciting sensory experience as we rolled out dough and folded it into triangles. Everyone was able to choose which filling they would like...you'll notice LOTS of chocolate-filled hamantaschen coming home!

February 27, 2015
Today Zoe got to help Ms. Paula hold the Kiddush cup at Shabbat!

...and Gritch the Witch came into the classroom to read us one of our favorite stories, Piggie Pie! Don't worry, she is more of a silly witch than a scary witch. This helped us start a conversation about what everyone would like to dress up as for Purim. Check the bulletin board inside our classroom to find out what your Bumblebee wants to be for our Purim parade!

February 24, 2015
We are getting ready to celebrate Purim! Today we paraded around the classroom with our groggers, and we are decorating our groggers for our school-wide Purim parade on Friday, March 7th.
Do you like our masks? The Bumblebees practiced their fine motor skills by squeezing glue for their feathers and by moving the glitter up and down so it would come out of the shaker.

February 13, 2015
Mazel the Shabbat Puppy visited us this week...take a look at all the fun we had with him!

William was so excited when we read the story Mazel the Shabbat Puppy. He kept asking to read it again!
Jenna was fascinated by Mazel's name and kept picking him up. She wanted to brush his teeth "up, down, and all around."

When Ms. Syndee came to pick up Mazel for her class, everyone helped to put him back in his carrying case. We were so sad to see him go!

Today all the Bumblebees wanted to read books. They sat so quietly that we had an extended story time today, and everyone got to choose books for Ms. Jaque to read to the class. We are so excited that our focus on books this week has really seemed to impact their appreciation for storytime and early literacy skills.

The Bumblebees are learning that print has meaning, starting with the most meaningful print to them...their own names! They are excited to begin recognizing their names and those of their friends, and are so proud to hold their very own name cards.

 Shabbat Shalom!

February 11, 2015
Dr. Goldvasser the dentist visited! He brought his puppy so that everyone could practice brushing his teeth "up, down, and all around." Make sure you are helping your Bumblebee to brush his or her teeth every morning and night to maintain the best dental hygiene!

January 26, 2015

This week we have started to practice self-regulation and following directions by implementing a more structured center time. The children play with new friends every day because we divide them into groups, and get to stay in each center for a designated amount of time. They are learning to take turns, extend their play, use their imaginations, and keep toys in their assigned centers. This helps them to engage more with the materials and to gain more skills and knowledge from their PLAY!

After snack every day we have quiet reading time before center play. We are learning to respect, appreciate, and love books.

January 23, 2014

Today we enjoyed a Shabbat snack outside! The children asked for it as we were walking back for Shabbat. We all enjoyed some nice weather and yummy challah and fruit.

 January 21, 2015

It has been a week of building. The Bumblebees LOVE Magna-Tiles, and we have watched them grow so much in the way they use them. They are developing fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination as they build towers, and use their imaginations to build things like "caves" and "Elsa's castle." They also collaborate on their projects, practicing teamwork and sharing.

Ms. Carol taught us how to make "weights" out of our magnet toys in the science center!

Nathan's tower got so tall that Ms. Jaque helped him reach higher to keep building.

January 16, 2015

Shabbat Shalom! We had a beautiful Shabbat today. We enjoyed a quiet Shabbat walk around the temple so we could hear and feel Shabbat outside. Zoe's family also brought us beautiful battery-powered candles that we used to light our Shabbat candles while we gave Tzedakah.

January 15, 2015

Our Bumblebees are loving to explore our new and improved centers. They played so nicely together today! Some of our boys were so imaginative with the magnet play: they turned them into microphones and started singing opera!
Miss Stacy the library lady visited this week to read us stories about soup! Yum!

January 9, 2015

Welcome back, Bumblebees! We took a walk in the garden this week, where we smelled herbs, identified vegetables, balanced on the bridge, and admired the flowers. We also went on a nature walk to collect sticks and other treasures to decorate picture frames.

December 12, 2014

It is almost Hanukkah in the Beez Land! We are working hard to make gifts and cards for our families, and learning all about Hanukkah symbols on the way!

December 5, 2014

Before Thanksgiving, we planted pumpkin and corn seeds. Look at how much they have grown! We make sure to water them every day, and keep them by the window so they have plenty of sunlight to grow. Soon we will have to move them to the garden so they can grow into pumpkins and corn that we can eat. Yum!

...And look at them now!

November 21, 2014

We are working hard on our turkey costumes. A big thank you to Zoe's mom for donating our T-shirts! See you on Monday at 11 AM for the big day!

November 14, 2014

We cut open a pumpkin to see what was inside! The Bumblebees loved this special sensory experience. We extended their learning by bringing in pumpkin muffins for them to taste, and by planting the pumpkin seeds that we found to see what happens!

November 8, 2014

We love fall! Back by popular demand is the Bumblebees' nature walk...with this beautiful weather, we even stopped in the grass to do some pumpkin yoga. We learned that pumpkins start as seeds, and grow on vines. Next week we will be planting some pumpkin seeds to watch them grow in the classroom.

We have a new light table in our science center. The children loved using it to explore fall leaves and a pumpkin sensory bag with pumpkin seeds and pulp!

October 31, 2014

The Bumblebees were so lucky to meet some nice fire fighters and explore their truck on Monday! Some of us were a little nervous to see the fire fighter in his full uniform and mask, but we know fire fighters are good guys! We also learned some new vocabulary like "axe" and "nozzle." I want to ride on a fire truck!

October 23, 2014

Today we read Leaf Man by Lois Ehlert. The children explored leaves and ran with them so that they could blow in the very light breeze on the playground. They also dug up some suprise pumpkins and gourds in the sandbox!

Ms. Stacy the library lady came today to read us stories about fire fighters!

October 20, 2014
We are getting ready for the fire fighters and fire truck to visit. The children collected fire fighter costumes, toy fire trucks, and little fire fighters around the classroom.

We finger painted "fire" and found out that when we mix yellow and red, it makes orange!

We are working our "feet" off on the Square One art projects!

October 17, 2014
It's Sukkah time!

Today we celebrated Simchat Torah during Shabbat. Mr. Brett unrolled the Torah so we couldsee it, and we waved our flags in a parade around the Sanctuary.

October 13, 2014
Happy Sukkot! We love to play in the Sukkah and built our own Sukkah in the classroom. We went on a nature walk to find some sticks, leaves, and branches that we used to decorate our Sukkah.

Everyone loved coloring the cardboard that we turned into the floor of our classroom Sukkah. We even added some special stickers, practicing our fine motor skills as we peeled them off the paper.

October 2, 2014
We have been practicing hand stands at My Gym!

For Yom Kippur, we are working on saying "I'm sorry" and talking about our feelings. The Bees decorated their feeling picture frames and made some funny faces to put inside the frame, too! Come into our classroom and check out our silly, angry, and surprised Bumblebees!

We also read a good story about feelings, and practiced our faces during circle time.

Look at the real life beehive that we found on our playground! We snapped a quick picture before Ms. Paula brought it to a safer place.

September 19, 2014
Our science center is getting better by the minute! Thank you to all of our wonderful parents who have donated to help our Bumblebees learn about their world, especially Rosie's family, Melody's family, and Jenna's family. Thanks so very much to everyone for your generous donations that have made our classroom so beautiful and cozy!

This week we had our first visit from Ms. Nikki the scientist. We learned about outer space and made green space slime! The Bumblebees LOVE sensory play!

Speaking of sensory play, we worked on a very messy paper mache beehive this week! The Bumblebees helped to make the paste (flour, water, and salt), and then dipped strips of yellow paper into our "glue" before sticking them to the balloon. Of course they had a chance to play with the balloon before we turned it into a beehive! We made a beehive because our Bumblebees are learning that bees make honey, our special Rosh Hashanah treat.

We have been eating SO much, thanks to all the beautiful apples you brought in this week. We made applesauce, and Ms. Ruti made us Jewish Cinnamon Apple Cake to eat. Even Rosie's mommy amd Ms. Paula tried some! We also tasted some apples with honey for a sweet new year!

We like to hear the shofar blast...and to make it blast, too!

Our apple trees are really growing! Have you come to our classroom to take a look?

Take a look at what else has been keeping our bees so busy this week!

September 11, 2014
The Bumblebees are starting to get pretty excited about Rosh Hashanah...

We sang songs about apples and honey with Mr. Brett for Music. We also sang about the shofar, and are practicing blowing the shofar in the classroom!

Our Bumblebees loved the song about the caterpillar eating apples out of their trees! This rhyme helped us to practice our colors red and green.

Everyone had a chance to practice ripping paper, which we will be using to make our community beehive next week!

We love playing in the classroom! Since some of our centers are new and improved, it has been an especially exciting week. Thanks to all of our wonderful parents who have donated the supplies to make our classroom happier and beautiful!

Enjoying our new science center!

We also love to play outside!

William is chasing the lizard he found on the playground!
William showed off a picture of his Baby Max to the Bumblebees. We can tell he is going to be a wonderful big brother!

Check out our Beginner's Yoga class with Ms. Jaque! The Bumblebees love to get their exercise, even on rainy days like today!

We went on a nature walk to find some sticks to make into apple trees.

Then we painted our apple tree pots with yellow, red, and green dot markers. We played with our clay before sticking it into the pot and painting it brown for dirt or green for grass.

Stay tuned to see what we will do next with our apple trees!

September 5, 2014
Shabbat Shalom! We got to start some of our special programs this week, like My Gym...

Big brother William! Mazel Tov to the Rubi family on their new baby boy!

Library with Ms. Stacy, who read us books about friends, including My Best Friends by Anna Nilsen and Feeding Friendsies by Suzanne Bloom.

We enjoyed the beautiful first days of September with a nature walk that ended in a visit to the Temple garden. Our Bumblebees ran all around and found lots of rocks and sticks while we were there.

Of course, we love Music with Mr. Brett. This week we are getting ready to celebrate Rosh Hashanah, so we sang "Dip Your Apple into Honey" and "Apples Dipped in Honey."

Ms. Paula got us a NEW sensory toy--kinetic sand! All of our Bees had a chance to play with it today--they hid bugs under the sand, pretended to cook with it, and even rolled it out like Play-doh. We are practicing keeping it in the box and not on the floor!

This week we did some special art, including making handprints, drawing circles, and watercolor. We love to create, but we love the process of creating (and sometimes getting messy) even more!

In Dramatic Play, sometimes we pretend to cook, sometimes we pretend to go to the store, and sometimes we pretend it's baby's bedtime! Jenna was so excited to play with the babies today!

We used our Shabbat placemats for the first time today! The Bumblebees remembered making them last week and were interested to see how the other children's were the same and different.

We love to dance at Shabbat! This is a photo of our Bumblebees dancing to "Challah in the Oven." Our favorite part is when we "clap our hands" and "stamp our feet!"
Shabbat Shalom! Have a great weekend!

August 29, 2014
Happy second week, Bumblebees! This week we explored the color RED and the circle shape, and got to use our senses in several fun art activities. We used cups, tubes, and dot markers to make red circles on white paper. Then we added red pom poms, tissue paper, pipe cleaners, straws, and foam stickers. We found out that red comes in many shapes, shades, and textures!

We identified some red items in the classroom, and everyone got a chance to choose something red out of the basket. Even Ms. Jaque's cup was red this week!

We read some red books, like Clifford the Big Red Dog and Llama Llama Red Pajama. We also read When Sophie Gets Angry, and learned that you may "see red" if you are angry!

We are practicing sitting at the table...Play-Doh is a great incentive!

We like to build at the carpet! We especially like to knock our buildings down! Check out William's tower before it fell over.

On Wednesday we had our very first Music with Mr. Brett. The Bumblebees love to run and dance while Mr. Brett plays fun songs on his guitar! This week we sang "You Are My Sunshine" and "The Wheels on the Bus," to name a couple.

Today was such a special Shabbat. Please remember to send in some loose change for Tzedakah on Fridays!

We worked on our Shabbat placemats, too. The Bumblebees glued Shabbat shapes onto their paper, and finished it with some Shabbat stamping (and some bumblebee stamps, of course!). We are excited to laminate these and use them at Shabbat snack and lunchtimes for the rest of the year! The Bumblebees are so proud of their hard work.

Have a wonderful weekend! Shabbat Shalom, Bumblebees!

August 22, 2014
Weclome to our Bumblebees family! We had a wonderful first week. We are really getting into a routine now, and have enjoyed getting to know our new friends. We love playing on the playgound and exploring the centers in the classroom, especially the art, dramatic play, and blocks centers. Beginnings are always hard, but after the first week all of our bees are adjusted and having a great time at school!
We used our senses to create some bumblebees with yellow finger paint, black tissue paper, and black pipe cleaners. We are working on our social skills, including sharing, following directions, taking turns, cleaning up, and sitting at the table for mealtimes. We also used our gross motor skills by doing morning exercise during circle time and riding bikes on the playground. Today we got to practice fine motor skills by putting coins in the Tzedakah box.
Here are some of the activities we enjoyed this week in pictures!
Making our bumblebees!
We love to play on the playground!

We have been working so hard on our spring projects. We're using lots of different art techniques to create our flowers.

April 23, 2014
Our avocados are growing! Maybe we'll be having home-grown guacamole some day soon...

Preston brought in the coolest train book today, and shared it with all his friends! We loved reading it together.

April 22, 2014
Instead of having pizza last Friday, we made matzoh pizza since it was Passover. The Bumblebees loved to spread the cold sauce, sprinkle the crumbly cheese, and we especially loved EATING our matzoh pizza! Even Ms. Paula and Ms. Sherrie joined in our pizza party!

April 18, 2014
For literacy week we are reading books by Lois Ehlert. Everyone loves Pie in the Sky and Wag a Tail!

We love to explore our playground in new ways! We are baking dirt pies in the pots and pans on the playground, and using the balls as bouncy seats! The Bumblebees' imaginations are enriching their friendships and outdoor experiences.

It's Baby Emmy!!

April 11, 2014
Happy Passover! Thanks to all the parents who were able to join us today for a wonderful celebration. Who knew that Bumblebees make the cutest froggies?!

Our Israeli friends came to our celebration too!

The girls found their handprints on the Red Sea that we made for our Passover play! Charlie made a crab, Reese made a fish, Allison made a crocodile, and Samantha made an angelfish!

April 8, 2014
We learned about birds and feathers in science today. Thanks, Ms. Nikki!

April 4, 2014
Frogs here, frogs there, frogs are jumping everywhere! Do you like the froggies that our Bumblebees have been working so hard on? Just wait until you see how cute they look in their Passover costumes!

This frog was jumping EVERYWHERE on the playground today! What a great way to bring our learning in the classroom to life (literally!).

April 2, 2014
What a beautiful day for a stroll in our garden!

March 31, 2014
We are getting ready for Passover! Today Ms. Ruti taught us all about Baby Moses, and explained how brave he was when King Pharaoh wouldn't let his people go! We also got to try on some froggies...
There were frogs on his NOSE and frogs on his toes!

Since the Bumblebees are so interested in reading and writing their names, we created a "beehive" so that each child can put his or her name (bumblebee) on it at circle time. It's important that the children have rituals that build relationships, and routines that help them to know what is coming next. We will be putting our bumblebees on the beehive every day at circle time, which will help reinforce the Bumblebees learning to recognize their names and the names of their friends (and teachers too)!

March 28, 2014
Our Bumblebees are learning to recognize and trace the letters in their names. They are so excited to recognize not only their names, but their friends' names also! They are developing their fine motor skills as they learn to hold a marker or pencil, and to follow the lines and letters that make up their names!

Today we found Shabbat Shalom on a special nature walk around the school and temple. We visited the new garden, where Ms. Paula let us smell some of the herbs the older classes have been growing. Then we walked to the temple garden, where we got to see a ladybug taking a rest on a leaf! The Bumblebees are learning to care for and respect nature.

And no Shabbat would be complete without some of our favorite rhyming stories!

March 26, 2014
Thanks for a great birthday, Bumblebees! We had a wonderful party with special cupcakes and balloons. All my Bumblebees family made me feel so special with handmade cards and lots of birthday wishes!

March 24, 2014
The imagination is an amazing thing! We offered our Bumblebees some cardboard tubes this morning, and we're amazed by their creativity and imaginative play. Who knew this "trash" could actually become a building block, art medium, microphone for renditions of "Let It Go," telephone, telescope, and tunnel for our new trains! A big special thanks to Mr. Moishe, Ms. Ruti's husband, who donated all our special new toys!

March 14, 2014
Happy Purim Day! We had such a wonderful celebration this morning--here is a peek if you weren't able to make it or if you just can't get enough of our adorable Bumblebees!
Thanks to Jason Rogers and Elena Sher for some great group pictures!

March 9, 2014
We were so happy to see so many of our Bumblebee families at the Kids' Shabbat on Friday! Did you like the clowns and masks that we decorated for the program?

Sydney is 3!!! We had a wonderful birthday party on Friday...happy birthday, Syd!

Thank you for all your generosity as we worked on our gardening experiments during the week. We were able to make guacamole twice this week, and are trying to grow our avocado seeds! We also are soaking some leftover celery stalks in colored water to see if the color will change...the Bumblebees LOVE science and cooking!

Even Ms. Paula loved our healthy snack!

As always, My Gym was lots of fun this week! We practiced following directions when we played "Musical Mat" and got to work on our balance when we walked on stilts!

Some of the boys built a little town and railroad track with Ms. Ruti...then they enjoyed knocking it all down!

We had a chance to make some music at the "Music Station" that Ms. Deanna made on the playground. She recycled some old pots and pans so that the children can explore music both outside and inside! The Ducklings wanted to play, too!

February 26, 2014
What's the BUZZ this week? Check out some of our cutest moments over the last few days!
We enjoyed beautiful Shabbat weather last Friday by having a pizza picnic! Even though the wind tried to blow Allison's plate away, we were able to see, feel, and listen to nature during lunchtime!

Monday was Body Science with Ms. Yael. The Bumblebees worked together to pull each other on scooters. They practiced their gross motor skills by controlling their large muscle groups as they hopped through a hula hoop obstacle course!

We can't get enough of this hungry caterpillar! We sorted the fruits that he likes to eat into colored bowls, and read the poster-sized version of the story.

But he was still...HUNGRY!

More books about caterpillars that we LOVE...
- First the Egg
- The Crunching, Munching Caterpillar
- Ten Little Caterpillars

We love our free play time in the Bumblebees classroom!

On Wednesday we made fruit parfaits with strawberries, bananas, and yogurt. All the Bumblebees enjoyed their healthy snack, and some wanted to "Cheers!" with each other before they began eating.

Take a peek at all the hard work Ms. Yael (Preston's mom) and Ms. Dawn (Charlie's mom) have been doing to prepare our Class Project for the PTO Night out (Saturday, March 29). The Bumblebees have loved being the subject of photos for this project!

February 20, 2014
While our Bumblebees were enjoying the three-day weekend, Ms. Ruti and Ms. Jaque were at a conference about the importance of incorporating nature into our classroom and curriculum! We are continuing to focus on our themes of healthy bodies, five senses, and feelings, and will do so with an emphasis on nature! Has your Bumblebee told you about The Very Hungry Caterpillar? Here's a look at all the fun activities we have been doing this week!

Morning exercise on the playground

The Bumblebees found some fun dirt during our fire drill!
Ms. Ruti told us the story of the lion who loved strawberries.

Racing across the grass!
On Thursday some of us painted our Very Hungry Caterpillars!

Dig, dig, dig!
Some of the Bumblebees have worked on matching the letters in their name to the lowercase letter stamps we have in the classroom. All our Bumblebees are beginning to recognize not only their own names, but their friends' names!

February 14, 2014
This week we learned about being healthy! Dr. Goldvasser came to talk to us about keeping our teeth clean and healthy. We also explored toothbrushes and floss through painting activities!

This is how we floss our teeth!
And this is how we brush--up, down, and all around.

During science we learned about flowers, butterflies, and BUMBLEBEES! We used Honeycomb cereal, honey, and sprinkles to make beehives.

Julia's mom came in to teach us some sign language. We learned that if someone can't use their sense of hearing, they can use their sense of sight to see the words.

February 6, 2014
The Bumblebees are exploring feelings and matching facial expressions to feelings, and they showed us a few of their favorite feeling faces...
Happy Sydney
Scared Samantha
Happy Alon
Excited Preston
Silly Allison
Happy Noah
Silly Charlie
Surprised Preston
We are also learning about the shape of heart, and talking about how we can keep our hearts healthy by eating fruits and vegetables, and getting good exercise. The Bumblebees loved to combine the red and white paint to make pink!

We are learning the difference between fruits and vegetables, and exploring the colors and sizes (big vs. small) of these healthy choices!

We can't forget all the healthy exercising we did at My Gym this week!

Please stop in the classroom to check out our baby bulletin board, so you can see the process of the Bumblebees' learning throughout this unit. The Bumblebees are so excited to see their pictures on this board!

February 4, 2014
We hope you are watering your parsley plants at home! Our Bumblebees love to watch the ones at school grow and grow and grow!

Have you met our new friend Reese? She is a wonderful Bumblebee!

Our Bumblebees are beginning to explore the letters of their names.

We LOVE books!

January 28, 2014
The Bumblebees are learning how to care for babies! Thank you so much to Naama, Alon's mom, for coming in this morning to show the Bumblebees the baby in her belly, and to answer all their questions about babies!

We gave our babies a bath...

And put diapers on them...

And fed them...

And when we were finished taking care of the babies, we played games with them and their toys. In addition to new baby-related vocabulary, the pre-math skills we have been working on are color matching and size sorting...and the Bumblebees really know their stuff!

A big THANK YOU to everyone in our Bumblebees family who has helped us along in our baby project, by donating baby items, bringing in photos of your Baby Bees, and even visiting the classroom! We are so lucky to have you all!!

This week we are still growing our parsley seeds! They are sprouting! We learned that plants use sunlight to make food, just like we eat healthy foods to keep our bodies strong. Our plants sit on the windowsill so they're close to sunlight and, as Samantha and Allison noted, they look nice there too!

Check out what we saw from Busch Wildlife! We didn't only see--we got to touch! But only with one finger, since it's important to be gentle to animals.

Meet August the Opossum! He reminded Samantha of a kangaroo and Alon of a rabbit.

This is Slowpoke the box turtle. He can box himself back into his shell if he is scared.

Sherbert the red rat snake is NOT Ms. Ruti's favorite animal...but she has pink eyes because she is an albino! Julia thought the snake was "Icky!"

Buttercup is a baby alligator. What a great way to relate Florida's natural animals back to our unit on babies! He is only one year old.

January 19, 2014

Happy Tu B'Shevat, Bumblebees! This week we planted parsley seeds. We learned that all plants--trees, flowers, and food plants--need soil, water, and sunlight to grow. We are watching our parsley seeds closely and can't wait to see them sprout!

Thank you to all the parents who were able to join our Tu B'Shevat celebration for Shabbat this week. It was such a beautiful celebration!

Have a great long weekend, Bumblebees!

January 14, 2014

This week we are learning about nature! The Bumblebees have been working hard on lots of tree projects for Tu B'Shevat. They are practicing their fine motor skills as they tear and sort paper, squeeze glue bottles, paint cardboard tubes, and peel and stick garden stickers.

Mr. Evan came for science today. He taught us about magnets, and how they sometimes attract and sometime repel different objects. The Bumblebees got to experiment with magnets, and used them to pick up paper clips, marbles, and plastic magnetic disks. The Bumblebees were excited to go home and use their metal refrigerators to learn more about magnets!

Over the next few weeks, we will continue to learn about nature. We will be planting in our garden and beginning to learn about Noah's Ark.
Please join us on Friday, January 17, at 9:00 AM for our Tu B'Shevat Shabbat!

January 10, 2014

Happy New Year! We are so happy to see all our Bumblebees again! We are excited to have a new friend in our class. All of the Bumblebees have been very welcoming, and we already love him so much! Welcome to the Bumblebees, Jack!
This week we jumped right back into the swing of things with My Gym...

new dress up clothes...

and Library with Miss Stacy, who read us books about trees for Tu B'Shevat!

We opened the Manipulatives center, and the Bumblebees love to work on puzzles! These activities are great for their fine motor and cognitive skills. We noticed that since the break, the Bumblebees are displaying more patience and less frustration as they solve these puzzles and enjoy the new activities!

What a great way to start the new year! Have a great weekend!

December 5, 2013

Happy Hanukkah to our Bumblebees family! Thank you to everyone who contributed to our celebration on Wednesday--the Bumblebees enjoyed so many goodies and worked hard at spinning their dreidels, a great exercise for their fine motor skills!

Alon's mommy brought in authentic Sufganiyot (Israeli jelly donuts), which Ms. Ruti showed to the class, who couldn't wait to have their own "donuts" at our Hanukkah celebration. Thank you so much for our special goodies, Ms. Na'ama!

We have been practicing lighting the menorah! The Bumblebees all wanted to sit at the table together and celebrate Hanukkah in the dramatic play area.
The Bumblebees couldn't wait to give you your Hanukkah presents!

We have LOTS of Hanukkah books to read!

Thank you for all our Hanukkah gifts. We love you and hope you had a very happy Hanukkah!
Love,
Ms. Ruti and Ms. Jaque

December 2, 2013

Hanukkah is finally here! We have been getting ready by learning to spin dreidels, making handprint menorahs, and singing and dancing to Hanukkah songs! The Bumblebees really enjoy "lighting" the toy menorah in the classroom.

We even got to taste some latkes last week! Some liked the potato latkes, some liked the sweet potato latkes, but EVERYONE loved the applesauce!

November 30, 2013

We hope you enjoyed your homemade cranberry sauce on Thanksgiving! The Bumblebees worked so hard to make it for you. First, they painted glue onto the baby food jars and chose colored tissue paper to stick onto the glass. Everyone was so careful with their glass baby food jars and the glass bowls full of glue. They really enjoyed being trusted with the breakable containers.

On Tuesday, they used their fine motor skills to slice/smash strawberries, and to squeeze an orange slice into their mixture. A lot of the sauce seemed to end up in hands and mouths instead of the jars...it looks like it tasted delicious! They all had the opportunity to stir up their cranberry sauce, before we put it in the jar and sent it home to your Thanksgiving table!

Cheers!
November 26, 2013

Thank you to all the parents who were able to join us for our Thanksgiving performance! The Bumblebees made such cute turkeys! We hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend with their families, and Happy Hanukkah! We can't wait to celebrate with the Bumblebees next week!
We missed you, Ms. Ruti, but Mazel Tov on passing your American Citizenship exam! :)

November 15, 2013

It is Thanksgiving in the Bumblebees' classroom! We have been busy worker bees lately--making our turkey costumes for the Thanksgiving program, decorating place mats, learning our songs, and now, learning about the first Thanksgiving! Yesterday when the Bumblebees begged us for a puppet show, we realized that would be the perfect way to give our Bees their first history lesson...

"The Pilgrims went on a big ship, called the Mayflower. It was a long trip and they got hungry. When they found Plymouth, they said 'Thank you, God, for a safe trip!'"
"But it was cold and they were still hungry. When they met the Native Americans, they asked if they would help the Pilgrims grow food."
"Together they grew lots of food, and the Native Americans shared their food with the Pilgrims. They became friends because they shared, and the first Thanksgiving is when they had dinner together."
Has your Bumblebee told you about our new STAR friend that has joined the class? The star comes to circle every day to wish us a "Happy Day!" and is a perfect companion if a Bumblebee needs to Stop, Take a deep breath, And Relax (STAR). Our Bumblebees are learning to control their own feelings and calm their bodies with the help of our new friend, and we are so proud of them! We even noticed that when one of the children is upset, others will suggest that he or she needs the star and bring it to him/her. This shows that they are learning to recognize and respond to others' feelings, and showing empathy for their friends.

This morning, Julia wished her friends a "Happy Day!"

November 03, 2013

The FALL is here and we are happy as can beezzzzz.....

We learned about the colors of fall: red, orange, yellow and brown. We learned to create the color orange by mixing red and yellow. We made a beautiful fall activity using real leaves that  Ms. Ruti's friend from Maryland mailed to us. We used all our senses to feel them: we can see the differnt colors, we could hear some of them that were dry and could be easily broken, and we could even smell some of them...
We sorted them by size and color, and we counted them and created a beautiful
FALL collage!!

                                                           FALL leaves from Maryland...

October 29, 2013

The Bumblebees are on FIRE! Our fire truck unit was fun and rewarding for all the Bumblebees (including the Queen Bees!). We were able to focus on one of our fall colors, red, and to talk about the ways that fire fighters keep us safe. We even practiced "Stop, Drop, and Roll" during circle time one day. We were so happy to notice that although some of the Bumblebees who were a little timid when we began exploring fire trucks and their sirens, by the time the fire truck arrived everyone was excited to "drive" the fire truck and spray the hose. Nobody wanted the fire fighters' visit to end! Here are some photos of our journey through the fire truck unit:

We made FIRE with finger paint and tissue paper!

We practiced "Stop, Drop, and Roll" on the carpet!

We read lots of books about fire fighters and fire trucks, and got to work on our fire truck floor puzzle.

We made our own fire trucks!

We had a fire drill, and learned that these practices are part of keeping us SAFE at school. During the fire drill, our Bumblebees practiced driving their fire trucks!

When the fire fighters visited, the Bumblebees loved their uniform so much, that some of them asked to try it on themselves! A fire fighter's jacket is just a little big for a Bumblebee...

We were lucky to help spray the hose while the fire fighters were here. (In fact, the fire fighters used so much water from our fire hydrant that on our way back inside, the fire alarm went off, and we had ANOTHER fire drill! We are getting good at these!)

I want to ride in a fire truck!

All the Bumblebees are so happy that fire fighters are doing their job to keep us safe, and we're not scared of their loud sirens anymore!

October 26, 2013

Please enjoy our little presentation :)

This presentation is a reflection of many activities we did at this month;
we explored the colors green, yellow and orange.
We had a visitor from High Tech;
we learned about spiders and their way of living!
We explored pumpkins and planted some seeds.
We love dancing and singing with Mr. Brett in music and Shabbat!

October 20, 2013

This week our Bumblebees visited the Art Room for the first time! They engaged their fine motor skills to squeeze paint-filled sponges and pat them onto the paper, using teamwork to create a tree for our fall bulletin board.

Some of our Bumblebees had the chance to start working on the fall leaves for our tree!

The Bumblebees really LOVE Mr. Brett's guitar! At every Shabbat and Music, they like to get a closer look, and sometimes he lets them try to play music on it. We love to encourage their exploration of musical instruments!

October 16, 2013

Our third fall color is ORANGE, the color of pumpkins! We have been exploring pumpkins, and can sort them based on color, texture, and size. We wonder what our pumpkins (that we're growing in the classroom) will grow up to look like!

October 13, 2013

We hope you are having a great weekend, Bumblebees family! This week we focused on our second fall color, GREEN, and the Bumblebees identified green throughout the classroom, then used many green materials for their art activity. They had the opportunity to scoop the finger paint from the bowl and onto their papers, an important skill for developing fine motor skills.

We started to learn about Thanksgiving this week. We read lots of Thanksgiving books, like "I'm No Turkey!" We really like Debbie Friedman's song: "Happy Thanksgiving! Hooray, hooray, hooray! Aren't you glad you're not a turkey, on this Thanksgiving Day?"

Part of learning about fall is pumpkins! Thank you to everyone who has brought in pumpkins so far for our fall activities. The Bumblebees love to play with them, line them up on the carpet, and explore the different shapes, sizes, and colors. This week we had the opportunity to cut open a pumpkin and find out what was inside. The Bumblebees wanted to use a magnifying glass to get a closer look! We even planted a few pumpkin seeds--we hope they grow!

We were so lucky to have Music with Mr. Brett TWICE this week!

Sometimes it gets cold at lunch time...
October 08, 2013

Hello Bumblebees family,
We started the week with Ms. Yael's Body Science.
Our beez learned about body parts; they pointed to them, understood how to use them and practiced them by following Ms. Yael's directions. Our beez had lots of fun and we can't wait for our next class with Ms. Yael!

and then we rested a bit...

Thanks to all of you who donated books (and puzzle) from the book fair; our beez love to read
and so do we!

We are working on "Llama Llama" puzzle

and reading our new "Llama Llama" book!

October 4, 2013

Shabbat Shalom! We have had a week filled with the color yellow, new books, and lots of exercise! Thank you so much to all the families who donated beautiful book fair books to our class. The Bumblebees have been enjoying their new books and puzzle all week! Thank you to Preston's mom (Ms. Yael) for reading our new book, Emergency Vehicles, to the class.

We have been working so hard on the color yellow. All of the Bumblebees are able to identify our first fall color, and each was able to find a yellow item in the classroom and bring it to the circle! This week we worked on an art activity that allowed the Bumblebees to "feel yellow" with finger paint, and to recognize the color yellow in many different types of art materials.

We had a special Friday treat when Sydney's mom (Ms. Amy)  joined us for some afternoon dancing in the classroom!

Have a great weekend, Bumblebees family!

September 27, 2013

Happy Simchat Torah! All the Bumblebees were so excited to wave their Simchat Torah flags and march around the Sanctuary during Shabbat yesterday. Rabbi Alon and Ms. Paula showed us that we are lucky to have FOUR Torah scrolls. We also enjoyed a special song by the Shining Stars.

September 20, 2013

Shabbat Shalom! Today we did a BIG mitzvah and had lunch in the Sukkah! We really enjoyed the beautiful weather, and got to explore the Sukkah a little more. After our lunch we had some special treats that the Shining Stars shared with us, leftover from their Sukkah celebration this morning. What a sweet end to our week!

September 18, 2013

Happy Sukkot! We have been preparing for Sukkot all week; between visiting our preschool Sukkah and decorating our own in the classroom, the past few days have been so busy!

Mr. David met us in the Sukkah and let us smell the etrog!

We'd like to give a big thank you to the Levkovitz family for donating these beautiful paper strips, which were the perfect finishing touch on our classroom Sukkah!

September 12, 2013

We really enjoyed My Gym today! The Bumblebees worked on their balancing skills as Miss Allison helped them walk across some wacky bridges.

We also practiced our coordination by walking across a bridge with handlebars all by ourselves!

Some of our Bumblebees used their imaginations with all the animal puppets and colored rings.

Miss Allison even took us on a thrilling ride through the chapel!

Afterward, we all enjoyed a puppet show about a caterpillar that turned into a butterfly! Everyone had fun exercising at gym today!

September 10, 2013

The Bumblebees are loving our window display of family photos. They are so excited to show off their families to one another! Please remember to bring in your family picture if you haven't already.

We have also been working so hard on our Yom Kippur art projects. On Tuesday we learned the story of "Jonah and the Whale," sang a special song about this story, and got to decorate our own whales.

It's so fun to be a Bumblebee!

August 23, 2013

It's hard to believe that our first week has already bzzzz'ed by! We are so lucky to have such beautiful and happy Bumblebees! It has been an action-packed week--here is a peek at all the fun we've been having in the Bumblebees class.

Playground Time
We really love our new (to us) BIG playground! There are so many new toys to explore, and more room to stretch our growing muscles.

Thanks, Ms. Ruti, for the wagon rides!

Art Activities
The Bumblebees have had the opportunity to explore lots of different art techniques this week. They worked on using liquid glue, glue sticks, and watercolor paints. They also learned that sometimes it's more fun to paint on the table...

The Bumblebees worked very hard on their "Mini Me" masterpieces. These creative self-portraits involved lots of gluing, painting, and experimenting with different textures and materials. They are now displayed on our hallway bulletin board and in the classroom. If you haven't already, be sure to check out the Bumblebees' works of art!

Making New Friends
Our favorite parts of center play are building in the blocks area and using our imaginations in dramatic play.

At circle time, we give our friends a friendly shake, a smile, and a high five to wish them a good morning. Make sure to ask your Bumblebee about the new songs they learned this week at circle time: "I'm a Little Bumblebee" and "You Are My Sunshine."

Dancing is a great way to play together and work our muscles! Our favorite songs to dance to this week were "Listen and Move," "The Freeze," and of course, "Goin' on a Bear Hunt."

Shabbat is Here!

Our first Shabbat with Ms. Paula, Mr. Brett, and Mr. David was a blast! We also enjoyed our special Shabbat snack of challah and fruit afterward.

On Fridays we all have the chance to give tzedakah for Shabbat. Our donations can help other children who are less fortunate!

What a great week! Have a nice weekend, and see you back on Monday!

Apr. 18, 2013

It was a busy week @ the Beezzz land!

We started the week with Ms. Yael and BODY SCIENCE.  Our beez learned about the different animals who live on a farm.  They pretended to sound and move like them!

On Tuesday, Miss Stacy from PB Library visited and read some FARM STORIES to us;
"How  Big Is a Pig" and "There's a Cow in the Cabbage Patch" by Stella Blackstone
"There's a Billy Goat in the Garden" by Laurel Dee Gugler
and "Never Say Boo to a Goose!" by Jakki Wood

Israel Independence Day!
We celebrated with our beautiful flags, we sang, we danced and our beez are loving Israel!

We also celebrated "The Week of the Young Child." We honored the author Anna Dewdney and read her books; Llama Llama red pajama,
Llama Llama mad at mama,
Llama Llama misses mama,
Llama Llama wakey wake
and Llama Llama nighty night
We asked our beez which one was their favorite and we made a chart to hang in class for you to visit and see :)

We always love to exercise with MY GYM!
Our beez were everywhere; running, jumping, hula hooping, riding, flipping, pretending to be cheerleaders and we ended the session with a puppet show/story.
We love MY GYM!

This week, the PETTING ZOO visited and we learned about farm animals;
we found them everywhere in class: at dramatic play center, blocks, puzzles, Library and we worked on a few art activities.

FUN @ THE PETTING ZOO FUN

Our beez loved the PETTING ZOO visit; these were some of their favorite things at the visit:
Rachel, Constantin, Maddie, and Beau loved petting the Birds. Harry, Raquel, Sophie, Olivia and Eyal loved feeding and petting the little cow. Lucy loved the Rabbit but she was feeding all of the animals! Daniel, Arielle and Ms. Ruti loved the chicks and the baby pig! The beez were amazed by the little animals; they were excited to find how soft they were and they were not afraid to feed them!

Another FUN week @ the beez land!

Apr. 12, 2013

Israel's Independence day is almost here, and this week we focused on it!
We had many activities to teach our children about our little Jewish land; we did it through music, dancing, games, art activities, stories, and books in both Hebrew and English. And yes, FOOD! Israeli style food.

It was a fun fun week at the beez land!

We finger painted with the color blue on white paper, and we encouraged the kids to try making different shapes while spreading the paint. Lots of circles!

We used our blue creation to make a beautiful collage using many Israeli symbols; we used stars and many pictures of Jerusalem.

Blue and White are the colors of the Israel flag,
We compared the American and Israeli flags to find out that they are the same shape; rectangles, stars, and even the same colors: Blue and White. We also looked at the differences between the two. No red for the Israeli flag, and many stars versus one.....
We also placed the Israeli flag on the table and let our beez make their own...

Israeli food; Pita, humus and oranges; yum yum!

Books about Israel in English and Hebrew are available for our beez at every center!
!

Loo Loo and the Fabulous Marvelous Rexxaroo by Sinnaminz on Etsy, $17.95

"Loo Loo and the Fabulous Marvelous Rexxaroo", a story about an imaginary cat. We were treated by the author, Helene Sola, who visited our school and told our kids a story about her own cat. Our children were fascinated and engaged with the story.

"I am a Latkes".... by Debbie Friedman

Latkes with Guest Mr.Chef John

Latkes tasting: Latkes are one of the favorite
foods we eat during Chanukkah.  We had a special treat to have Mr. James make us Latkes! He
showed us the ingredients that we can use to
make latkes: potatoes, onions and sometimes
sweet potatoes, and of course oil. Our favorite part was the eating!  We enjoyed these homemade latkes with applesauce! With our tummies full,
we sang the latke song back to our class!

@ MY GYM

The bumblebees had demonstration class on
fundamentals with Mr. James. Our children got a little taste of baseball.  He taught us the
bases; first, second, third, and home! Our
children explored the basic elements of
baseball:  the bat, the ball and the glove.
Mr. James showed us how they are used. Then the action began; our bumblebees ran through all the bases as they picked up a stick. Our beez loved playing the game of baseball; I think we have
some promising players among us!!!

They learned so much about turtles.  Did you know that there are 7 types of turtles and the Leatherback is our largest turtle and can get up to 7 to 9 feet!  We are now all encouraged to visit Loggerhead Marine Life Center in

Oct. 30, 2012

Going for a “Nature Walk” is one of the ideas I brought back from our NAEYC conference in Orlando; if our weather allows us, we will try walking outside every day!
“When Sophie gets Angry – Really, Really Angry….” By Molly Bang is a story about a little girl who gets very angry at her sister who took her toy away from her. She ran out, and while in Nature she feels the breeze from the trees, hears the birds singing and smells the freshness of NATURE. Sophie walks back home with a smile in her face; she is happy to go back home. NATURE did what it always does; it makes you feel better J.
After reading the story, I asked our beez if they would like to go for a long walk…. and within a second they all were holding the rope while shouting yes! We were amazed to see how they blended with NATURE.
They kept collecting many leaves and flowers; in Yellow and Purple. They discovered mushrooms and saw birds and squirrels.  We let them run around and enjoy the freedom of NATURE. We spent over half hour out and our beez were so happy running and looking for pieces of nature to bring back to our SCIENCE CENTER in the class.
Here are some pictures  we captured while outside, in NATURE.

We went for a Nature walk; Our beez found many leaves and small branches to use for our little Sukkah activity.

Our Bumblebee z learned how significant the Shoffar is  to our High Holiday; we saw the shoffar; we heard the sound of it, and we even know what it  is made of.  Here we are decorating a pre-cut shape of a shoffar with colorful tissue papers. We took this opportunity to talk about the square shape and to identify the variety of colored papers we used. We also noticed that one color can have lots of different shades.
Our beez are all about exploring and they love it :)

We said good bye to our little bee; she is going back to Israel.  We wish to all our Bumblebeez families

A HAPPY AND SWEET NEW YEAR

Giving tzedakah is a wonderful thing to do and our beez understand the importance of this act of kindness, especially during the high holidays.

Dancing, playing, reading and dancing more is some of the things we do @ the beez land...
