Welcome !

Early Childhood Center-School Year 2016-2017

"Play is the highest expression of human development."
Welcome to The One School At Temple Beth Am, Celebrating the Whole Child. We understand and respect that every child is essentially, ‘the one.’ Every child is unique. The specifics of how we nurture and grow each child are dependent entirely upon the needs of the child. This is how we celebrate each child - by engaging him or her at his or her point of need. The One School partners with every parent to ensure every child is championed and educated as an individual.

The One School is a NAEYC Accredited, Reggio Emilia Nature-inspired school, serving ages 18 months to five years. The One School offers certified teachers, a low student/teacher ratio, an emergent creative curriculum and specialty areas of study including science, art, music, foreign language and nature study. The One School’s curricula are supplemented by young family programs and parenting workshops, an infant and toddler program, Family Center, Summer Camp, after school enrichment classes and an active and instrumental Parent Teacher Organization. A commitment to contribute to the community and the world at large is also a part of the school’s social justice philosophy.

Planting Seeds in Honor of Tu B'Shevat, the Birthday of the Trees!

As you know we are studying gardening throughout the year as well as learning that plants need sun and water in order to grow. As you can see in the photos the children are learning those skills with hands on planting activities! Last week we planted parsley for Tu B'Shevat, which will hopefully  be ready to harvest for the Passover Seder. Your children will be bringing home their parsley this week to continue to care for the plants with you at home!

Mazel Celebrates Chanukah and Shabbat!

Today we had a special visitor, Mazel the Shabbat puppy. Mazel is one of the traveling curricula from the CJE, the Commission for Jewish Education in West Palm Beach. The Shabbat Puppy book teaches us about caring for animals, respecting our grandparents, respecting Shabbat, and the wonders of nature. We celebrated Chanukah and Shabbat with him all on the same day!

PBC Fire Rescue Visit!

Today we got to see a real fire truck! The children explored the truck and it's tools, hoses, tires, helmets and more! Some children even wanted to sit in the driver's seat. We met some very friendly firefighters too! We have been learning about fire trucks, firefighters, and fire safety this past week, and will continue this week as well. Check out these photos!

Getting Ready for Sukkot
Sukkot is a pilgrimage holiday on which we build and dwell in temporary booths, each called a Sukkah. The Sukkah links us to our past and is a statement of human dependence, a thank you for dangers lived through and a harvest ingathered. Building a Sukkah is the kind of joyful undertaking which fuses people together. What a way to begin a New Year! We started decorating our Sukkah by painting it in many different colors. More to come!

Box Discovery

We are sure you have all seen the giant boxes in our classroom. The best toy ever! While on the playground, the children noticed a large truck filled with large boxes that were being brought into the building. Some furniture was being delivered - we asked for the large boxes to explore. We've spent the week climbing in and out, and some children decided to color on the box with crayons. Soon there was a number of children doing this together. A hole was made, and the children began sticking the crayons in the hole. This activity emerged completely from the children. They started bringing over other items to see if they would fit in the hole. They took turns without teacher guidance. Problem-solving activities like this are essential to children's growth and development. Check out these photos!
