Welcome !

Early Childhood Center-School Year 2016-2017

"Play is the highest expression of human development."
Welcome to The One School At Temple Beth Am, Celebrating the Whole Child. We understand and respect that every child is essentially, ‘the one.’ Every child is unique. The specifics of how we nurture and grow each child are dependent entirely upon the needs of the child. This is how we celebrate each child - by engaging him or her at his or her point of need. The One School partners with every parent to ensure every child is championed and educated as an individual.

The One School is a NAEYC Accredited, Reggio Emilia Nature-inspired school, serving ages 18 months to five years. The One School offers certified teachers, a low student/teacher ratio, an emergent creative curriculum and specialty areas of study including science, art, music, foreign language and nature study. The One School’s curricula are supplemented by young family programs and parenting workshops, an infant and toddler program, Family Center, Summer Camp, after school enrichment classes and an active and instrumental Parent Teacher Organization. A commitment to contribute to the community and the world at large is also a part of the school’s social justice philosophy.

Noticing our Letters with Ms Julie's Phonic's class

Ms Julie Fun with Phonics class has been a hit this summer.  Between sports, water play, cooking and more our children have enjoyed enrichment classes with Ms Julie after camp.  The best way to learn our letters is through hands on experience with them.  The children in our beginner class made the letter F with blocks and explored words that start with this letter.  Oh what fun as we thought together of words we knew with the letter F.  Our follow-up activity included putting pictures of words on our fabulous fish. Our classes enjoyed the fun activities while learning and can’t wait until the next class Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons.

Learning our letters with blocks

Writing our names first

Words that begin with F

We love our fabulous fish!

Learning our "an" words

We can read them all!

Thanks Ms Julie! Oh what fun!!!

Tennis camp came alive this week with Ms Kristen from My Gym!
We learned the proper grip, a tennis swing, and how to follow the tennis
ball!  Tennis is a great sport in which we use our hand-eye coordination,
our gross motor skills, and a way to enjoy sports for a life time!

Cooking At Summer Camp

Did you know that children appreciate a wider variety of food when they participate in preparation. And, don’t be surprised at the number of skills you help children develop along the way. Here are a few reasons to enjoy cooking with our children!
  • Cooking encourages creativity.  Children can make cooking decisions, and add extra features, to their cooking experience. Each activity can give children the opportunity to be creative and unique.
  • Cooking teaches how things change. Through various processes in the kitchen – heating, freezing, grinding, and beating – food is made ready to eat. Cooking can be a great extension of science.  Through the simple mixing of ingredients or watching water boil or freeze, for example, children can experience different states of matter.
  • Cooking builds self-confidence. Realizing they can take part in and contribute to the adult world provides great satisfaction for children and develops positive self-esteem.
  • Thank you to John Marzina and Richard Remmick
    for being our "guest chefs"
